Paintings

I've been thinking about desktops. Everybody needs a good one, be it a cuddly kitten or Metallica album cover. I've have had some good ones in the past, but lately I've been trying to find paintings I've liked in suitable high resolution. I dunno, maybe I'm getting snobbish. Wikia Commons was a great place to get started, but the search engine was not exactly sophisticated and it has proved to be impossible to cull out the smaller images. On the other hand, Google Image has gotten a lot better since sometime in the recent past they added the possibly to eliminate pictures of less than certain amount of megapixels (as opposed to "less than big", which was too vague or "less than 1024x800" which in turn was too strict).

Today I hit the mother load - so to say - with the flickr-stream of Freeparking. 19th century art is one of my favourite things, and I was thus happy to find such an amount in good resolution. What joy!

Some of my favourites follow. Alas, blogger makes them so small and insignifant; clicking helps but they are still not on the resolution to be found on my hard dirsk. Maybe you are able to locate them somewhere else again (or you can always hit me with an email, I suppose!).

Next I probably have to hit the library. I'd really like to find a good high quality scan of Gallen-Kallela's At The River of Tuonela or of Henri Gervex' Rolla. Apparently none exist in the Internet today. I suppose I wish to give something back and produce one.. Gallen-Kallela's work is easy enough to find, I think.
